Description

What does reconciliation mean to you? Join us as we share an approach used at Mount Royal University to increase Indigenous knowledge dissemination within our community. We are excited to also invite dialogue and discuss how this could be implemented in a myriad of spaces. Through learning circles, we center Indigenous voices to learn how to collectively work in a good way.
We believe that systems change is enabled through community, and that sitting in circle is a powerful metaphor for bringing people together to learn. How can facilitators and participants ensure that everyone sees themselves in the journey towards reconciliation? One approach involves linking frameworks such as Ethical Space and Two-Eyed Seeing, which honours both Indigenous and Western frameworks, protocols, and methodologies. We believe that learning circles facilitate allyship, foster decolonization, and provide empowerment to act on what has been learned. Through this we strengthen our collective approach to reconciliation.
