Wildlife need to move across the landscape to access water, food and mates, a key strategy for maintaining biodiversity. This movement is often complicated by roads, housing and other anthropogenic features that create barriers. Municipalities play a critical role in implementing nature-based solutions that support ecological connectivity. This session presents a case study on maintaining connectivity for large mammals and amphibians in the Greater Calgary Region, with lessons from rural and urban perspectives, and poses questions on barriers and opportunities for integrating connectivity into decision making.
