Aysha Emmerson
Researcher, MSc Candidate in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance
University of Oxford
Aysha is motivated by a desire to build more socially connected and resilient communities, grounded in principles of justice, equity, and care. She was the first student to graduate from Harvard College with a degree in Resilience Studies. As a current MSc candidate in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance at Oxford University, she is passionate about designing new programs, policies, and narratives geared towards understanding and improving how human and environmental systems cope with adversity.

Aysha has immersed herself in social-environmental policymaking in Canada and the United States. She co-designed and implemented leadership programs for 1500 youth around the world and advocated for at-risk women and girls through the United Nations, WE Day, Georgetown’s Women, Peace, and Security Institute, and Project Somos in Guatemala. She has co-founded three non-profit initiatives and conducted research spanning an in-depth study of Canada’s largest act of disobedience (anthropology), intergroup relations lab work (psychology), as well as adaptation finance and the political economy of globalisation (economics). Laser-focused on positive impact, she is always looking to learn, collaborate, and innovate across sectors and disciplines.

Aysha is currently collaborating with the City of Calgary on a research inquiry related to inclusive futures and equitable resilience. In 2024, she was awarded British Columbia's Medal of Good Citizenship (MCG).
