Kaitlyn Squires

EQuIS Research Platform
Kaitlyn is a researcher with the Equity, Quality, Innovation, and Safety (EQuIS) Research Platform based
at the Alberta Children’s Hospital through the University of Calgary. At which she is working to improve
and enhance those four pillars in surgery and healthcare in Canada and internationally.
She is an alum of Mount Royal University with a BSc in General Science - Biology and Geography with a
designation in Community Service Learning. During her time at MRU she was a Catamount Fellow
(Institute of Community Prosperity) and Map the System participant (2022), where she won the campus
final and went further to the Canadian finals and global level at Oxford University. Her project, focusing
on Canadian sex workers’ access to healthcare, continued past the competition and was recently
published in the Journal of Primary Care and Community Health.
As a changemaker, Kaitlyn has been able to work with many great organizations, including Alberta
Health Services, Ocean Wise, Miistakis Institute, Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta Council for
Global Cooperation, and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. She is currently a core council member
of the Mood Disorder Association of Canada’s Youth Council.
Kaitlyn is deeply passionate about social change, systems thinking, and community-based innovation,
and brings these passions into her work and everyday life.
