The Japanese term ‘dōjō’ literally means ‘a place for practicing the way’ and generally refers to a space used for training in martial arts or meditation. The Complexity Dojo uses a somatic coaching approach that draws from Japanese martial and mindfulness traditions to explore the relational dynamics of leading in complexity. In this approach, the body and its habitual responses become a metaphor for how we engage systems and lead others while the dojo floor becomes the world under a microscope. Participants will work through a range of dynamic scenarios, both alone and with partners, that mirror the opportunities and challenges we face when we seek to influence any kind of system. We’ll grapple with questions like:
- How do we shift deeply embodied leadership patterns of reactivity, forcefulness and linearity?
- How do we remain centered and curious as things get more chaotic and uncertain?
- How do we access and work from optimal states of consciousness when it matters most?
- What does skillful action feel like when we’re entangled in challenging relationships?
The atmosphere is one of deep respect, safety and personal growth for all; this is not a gym or a fight club and there is no sparring or competition. Everybody is welcome regardless of physical fitness, strength, or previous experience
